4 Ways to Keep Your Cleaning Resolutions Year-Round

We’re already halfway through the first month of the year and it’s time to check in with yourself to see how those New Year’s resolutions are coming along. Cleaning and organizing related resolutions are always popular, but once the newness of the new year wears off it can be difficult to keep up your momentum. Here are our four favorite ways to keep yourself in the cleaning groove through January and beyond!

1. Keep a cleaning checklist. Make a cleaning checklist and hang it in a place where you’ll see it daily, like on the refrigerator. Create daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks to remind yourself what needs to be done and check off tasks as they’re completed.

2. Set a reminder and timer. Once you’ve created your cleaning checklist, set a daily reminder on your phone for cleaning time so you don’t get to the end of the day and realize you didn’t complete any of your chores. Set aside time every day to complete those cleaning tasks. Put on a timer for 15 minutes and get at least one thing done from your list. No matter how busy your day is, just 15 minutes will make you feel accomplished!

3. Keep a cleaning supply inventory. Nothing sets you back on cleaning goals quite like not having the right supplies. Keep an inventory list handy of your cleaning supplies so you know when you’re running low on floor cleaner or sponges. Give your inventory a quick look before you head to the store so you’ll never find yourself without the proper supplies.

4. Keep essential tools nearby. Keep key cleaning supplies near the space they’re used the most. If you know you sweep the entryway more than any other part of your home, keep a broom in the entryway closet for quick cleanup. Likewise, keep a squeegee in the shower for quick wipe-downs every morning. Storing supplies close by in key areas will serve as a visual reminder to clean.

Now that you have the tools to keep your cleaning resolutions, you can sail through the rest of the year with a clean, tidy house!
