12 Tips for a Cleaner Campsite

August 01, 2019

Camping is one of the most relaxing and fun summer activities you can do as a family. But with the Great Outdoors comes a great, big mess. How do you keep your campsite clean without compromising family fun? We have a few tips, tricks, and tools for you to bring along the next time you sleep under the stars.

#1 – First Things First

Before you unpack the car, use a Libman Extra Large Precision Angle® Broom to clear small twigs, rocks, and other debris from your campsite. This will allow you a much more comfortable surface to sleep on, especially if you’re truly roughing it and not using an air mattress.

#2 – Clean Sweep

Prior to setting up your camping kitchen, use the Libman Dust Pan & Brush Set to sweep off any picnic tables and seating. Keep this tool nearby for the rest of your stay. It’s perfect for brushing off dirty shoes, your tent doormat, and other small surfaces.

#3 – Welcome Mat

Use a rubber car mat as doormat at the opening of the tent to catch any dirt or sandy on its way in. Better yet, leave your shoes outside the tent.

#4 – Scare Away Spiders

If you’re staying in a screened shelter, bring along a Libman Tornado® Mop and Libman All-Purpose Bucket. Then you can mop your shelter’s concrete floor with a solution of bleach water. Along with sanitizing the space, this prevents spiders from nesting in your tent.

#5 – Bag It Up

Bring lots of trash bags, grocery bags, and large  sealable baggies. These will come in handy for everything from laundry sorting, to storing a wet swimsuit, to carrying items across the campground.

#6 – Trash Talk

Use a Libman Utility Bucket as a makeshift garbage can. Simply line it with a trash or plastic shopping bag  to make it easier to dispose of your garbage. When you’re done, just remove the trash bag, wash off the hamper, and pack it up.

#7 – Convenient Cooking

Campsite grills can be convenient for making family dinners while camping, but they aren’t always the cleanest surfaces. Bring a Libman Brass Grill Brush with you to make sure you’re cooking on a clean grill grate. You can also  wrap your food inside the aluminum foil, and place it over the fire. Once you’re done, no cleaning up pots and pans – just toss it out once cooled!

#8 – Ice, Ice Baby

Do double duty with your ice packs. Keep your coolers cold with frozen water jugs. And when you need more water, let the summer sunshine turn that ice to water. You can also soak a Libman All-Purpose Sponge with water, freeze it, and place it in a sealable plastic bag. This creates an instant ice pack, but you can also use it to clean around the campsite after it thaws!

#9 – Buzz Off

Keep your campfire free from mosquitoes. Burn a bundle of sage in your campfire to help repeal those pesky bloodsuckers. For maximum effect, set the sage on the fire and let it smolder and smoke by the edge. Mosquitoes are naturally repelled by sage smoke, and you won’t have to keep slathering yourself in bug spray.

#10 – Wipe Down

Bring Libman Microfiber Sponge Cloths along in your pack. Pre-moisten a few of cloths and store them folded in a large sealable plastic bag for quick spill cleanup. Take along a few dry ones too, so you can dry wet items quickly.

#11 – Roll Out

If you do end up tracking sand or dirt into your tent, a Libman Lint Roller can make quick work of that mess. This trick works great for inside sleeping bags, too!

#12 – Scrub Down

Save space in your camp pack by bringing along a Libman All-Purpose Scrubbing Dish Wand filled with dish soap instead of a separate soap bottle and sponge.
