Cleaning Tips for Households with Allergy Sufferers

March 16, 2018

Clean efficiently and regularly – Indoor dust, pet dander and fur are common allergy triggers for many sufferers.  Make sure you thoroughly and regularly sweep pet fur, dander and dust out from under and behind furniture.  Then use a Libman Wonder Mop to trap and remove dust from hard flooring surfaces. Don’t forget about the dust accumulated on walls and ceiling fans, especially if the latter haven’t been used in a while

Don’t Dry Dust – You want to dust often if you have an allergy sufferer in the home. However, dry dusting can spread more dust and allergens into the air.  Instead, slightly dampen a Libman All-Purpose Dust Cloth with a bit of water to capture and remove dust and allergens.

Vacuum frequently – Carpeting is known to harbor allergens and needs to be vacuumed regularly.  HEPA-equipped vacuums put less dirt and fewer microscopic dust mites back into the room as you vacuum and are an excellent choice for households with allergies.

Remove shoes and clothing after coming inside – Pollen can collect on clothing so be sure to prevent spreading it into your home.  Remove your shoes outside the door and put your clothes in the hamper and change into something else. Also, try showering at night to remove leftover pollen from your body and hair before you get into bed.

Wash Fido and Fluffy’s paws – If you have dogs or an indoor/outdoor cat, be sure to wipe their paws and fur when they enter the home, since grass and pollen (and mud!) can cling to them. Use a damp cloth like the Libman Microfiber Sponge Cloth to remover allergens.

Wash Fabrics Frequently – Allergens such as pollen tend to stick to fabrics, which allows them to be deposited on furniture and other surfaces when you come in from outside. Regularly wash bedding, pajamas and clothes as often as possible to rid them of troublesome allergens during the high allergy seasons.
