Summary
This position is responsible for managing, directing, and coordinating the manufacturing operations of the Extrusion Department. The Extrusion Manager is responsible for assigning work across all shifts within the department, implementing policies and procedures, and recommending improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions. The manager is ultimately responsible for quality, production, and safety. The job requires hands-on management. The manager will spend 80% on the production floor and 20% in the office.
Essential Job Functions
- Lead, motivate, and train 5 to 15 employees in the department. The manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department
- Responsible for material management and working with the Production Scheduler
- Monitor raw materials, fiber non-finished goods inventory, and usage
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems
- Coordinate maintenance resources for shutdown periods and major installations
- Be available to troubleshoot for timely resolution of complex problems and get equipment back online
- Evaluate machinery to identify parts that are critical and have a lengthy lead time to prevent extended downtime of machinery
- Be proactive in identifying parts that are showing signs of wear and replace them before failure to reduce machine downtime
- Direct the response to emergency calls 24-hours a day
- Ensure preventive maintenance program is maintained, periodically reviewed, and adheres to PM compliance
- Assume responsibility for shift’s output, ensuring excellent quality, safety, and housekeeping at all times, including scheduled weekends
- Ensure effective employee relations, providing employee coaching and development
- Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas. Works to continuously improve in all areas
- Serve as a mentor to Extrusion operators
- Perform accident investigations with the safety manager
- Track absenteeism and timekeeping
- Assign employees to workstations
- Ensure employees stay at workstations until the buzzer and return to workstations prior to the buzzer sounding
- Monitor the production floor
- Enforce production and quality standards
- Conduct performance reviews of direct reports

Other Requirements
- High School Diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five or more years of related experience in Extrusion processes in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Must possess excellent written communication, data analysis, and project and time management skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word)
- Must possess organizational and multi-tasking skills with the flexibility to manage multiple conflicting priorities and frequent changes
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Builds trust throughout the organization by clearly communicating and following through
- Team player able to build and maintain key internal and external relationships
